Music and Study

This class seems like a good tool in preparing students for writing deeper and more complex papers.  Hopefully it will be excellent practice for future research projects I intend to work on.  This semester I would like to begin writing on the effect music has on the human brain during periods of study.  I find it rather interesting that music holds the ability to surface different emotions.  For example, listening to a mellow, rhythmically slow song, one may find themselves falling into a state of relaxation.  The ability for music to take one away mentally is what particularly interests me.  I would also like to dig deeper into the concept of music on the brain and research actual changes of the brain's chemistry in response to various music.  Maybe music can become a tool of healing for those suffering from depression or other psychological disorders.  In particular for this class I think it would be interesting to explore the affect music has on the brain during studying.  Does it improve concentration?  Does it take away?

  1. Please choose a topic that is more directly related to issues in higher education. Of course, studying and music might connect, but it does not engage you with the issues of our class in any way, and that sort of project has much broader applications. The idea of the course is to focus on issues related to "College" specifically. Give it another shot.
